About Us
What makes Leader of the Pack different from other rescues?
We make personal connections.
We TALK to you. No Endless Applications and Unreturned Emails and Phone Calls.
We get to know you, and discuss the dog you are interested in and I will also make suggestions of appropriate pups for your particular situation.
We adopt to Seniors and Emotional Support and Service Dogs
At Leader of the Pack, we believe that bringing a dog into a home with older citizens and adopters in need of an Emotional Support Dogs, can be not only successful, but also life-altering for man and dog alike. Dogs can enrich the quality of life for people of all ages, and we find this particularly true for seniors. Our canines bring companionship, energy, and a sense of purpose to seniors, and they help keep people moving and engaged.
We feel so strongly that no one who is capable of having a dog should be denied. Hence, placing dogs with citizens in their golden years and Veterans suffering from PTS, are our favorite things to do! We go the extra mile to be sure that all parties will be safe and cared for and that the dog is suitable and appropriate for the senior(s). We have had great success with this endeavor and it brings great satisfaction to us and the families involved.
I spoke to this Veteran name Zeke on the phone who was looking for a Service Dog. He has waited for 2 years waiting for the Veteran Administration to produce a Service Dog with no results
After I hung up with him, I looked around my house and settled on Quincey. He is a German Shepherd Foster I brought up from Tarboro, North Carolina, a Kill Shelter. The more I thought about it, the more it made sense that his amazing dog could do this job as an Emotional Support Dog.
I called Zeke back and offered him to meet Quincey and just take it from there.
Here is his update: I could not have asked for a better dog and you are going to have hell of a feel good story heading your way - my ptsd has been terrible and now I'm relaxing and finding some peace again and the pictures show it. He'll be coming with me to Operation Mend in California at ucla for tbi and ptsd testing and possible program admission if i fit criteria. It's in partnership with the wounded warrior project.
He's giving me my life back and hope again - I was dropping hard.
Quincy is truly a life saver and I am thankful for him every day.
He is such an amazing guy and helps me on so many ways - this dog has not changed my life, but saved it.
All our dogs have been in our Care before being listed as adoptable.
This means that they have been vetted and evaluated before we try to find them their forever homes. We know if they are housebroken, good with kids, unable to live cats and if they enjoy snuggling under the covers. In other words, we know our dogs, which means we are able to make a successful match for you.
We listen to you!
If you tell us you want a small dog that loves to cuddle, gets along with your cat, and doesn't require a large yard, that's what we'll search for. We have a broad network of people who are as committed to finding your dog as they are to finding a home to the strays, abandoned, and surrendered dogs we rescue.
If It doesn't work out
Neither dogs nor people come with guarantees . . . but Leader of the Rescue Pack does come with a promise to you: If the dog you select doesn't work out for you, we will take the dog back and refund your adoption fee.

Jennifer Gordon
Well, it happened to me too. I fell in love with a picture of a dog. It was Love at first sight. So I understand.
I was paging through Petfinder website while in the office one day, when the dog that captured my heart popped up on the screen. So I told my boss I had to leave the office immediately and go see about a dog . I drove an hour to claim my baby in Ridgefield, CT shelter.
When I got her home, I was intrigued by the paperwork. It said she had been in Albany, NY, and Cookville, TN. I proceeded to contact the people who had handled my dog, both in Albany and Cookeville, and that is how I learned about the migration of dogs from the South to the Northeast. The woman in Tennessee said they could use a point person in Connecticut, and I immediately replied, “I’m your woman". That was seven years ago..
That began my incredible journey in rescue and has led to over 3,875 adoptions in the Northeast of dogs from Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, Texas, Maryland, Connecticut and New York. We are adding to that number weekly.
Our dogs are mostly from the South, but I do have a few local fosters, and I can have a dog brought North to foster, if I have the space. I also pull dogs from New York City shelters and from the Poughkeepsie Animal Shelter. I also help people rehome their pets.
We are vigilant about the health of our dogs, and they are given first-class attention. We spay or neuter, give annuals shots, and do fecal and heartworm tests; we microchip all our dogs. Adult dogs are given a dental exam, and we run tests to see that they are healthy for adoption. Each dog's medical history and records accompany it to its new home.
If you fall in love with a photograph and are eager to learn more, we will provide you with a video of your dream dog. Then we have you speak to the foster mother, who can answer all your questions about your pup and will tell you the back story.
I know it takes a leap of faith to adopt a dog sight-unseen, but I promise you, if you do adopt a dog and it doesn’t work out, I will take the dog back immediately and refund your adoption fee. Truly, it is a win-win situation.
If you’d like to speak to me more about my rescue process and the dogs that I currently have, please call 203 854 9896. I do things the old-fashioned way: I speak to you. I believe you learn so much more about a person in a conversation than from any ten-page application form.
I am in Connecticut and am a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
